Ian Somerhalder: Finds it 'awesome' being naked in 'Vampire Diaries'

Actor Ian Somerhalder has said that he enjoys being naked on The Vampire Diaries.

Ian, who plays Damon Salvatore on The CW series, recounted his first experience reading the script for season three's premiere episode.

"Well, you know, you open up the cover page of season three, episode one, and it's, like, the first half a page, Damon's already naked," Somerhalder told Entertainment Weekly.

"So I'd spent almost two days on set completely naked, which is kinda awesome, because as if I wasn't close enough to our crew members, I feel really close after that."

The 32-year-old went on to describe a prank that he and the episode's first assistant director played on the actor's fellow castmembers, including co-star Nina Dobrev.

"So our first AD Rudy, at like 8 o'clock in the morning, came up to me and says, 'Hey listen, I have an idea'," Somerhalder said. "It was that I should go to the prop master, another genius part of our show, and have them make some elephant ears.

"The first thing we see is Nina's reaction, so what if I was completely naked and we had elephant ears and double-stick tape, and I put them on each of my thighs, and ultimately, she would be staring at a very small, young elephant. The reaction that we got was f**king amazing."

The actor confirmed earlier this week that, he is dating Dobrev, saying that he loves a "million things" about her.

Recently, Somerhalder revealed that he misses his character's attitude from the first season of The Vampire Diaries, saying that he prefers "bad-ass" Damon.
