 Sean Penn: Denies influence of Ozzy Osbourne on rockstar character
Oscar winning actor Sean Penn has rejected the suggestion that, his performance as a rock star in 'This Must Be The Place' was based on Ozzy Osbourne.
While speaking at the Cannes press conference for Paolo Sorrentino's film, Penn was asked if he took any inspiration from the Black Sabbath frontman.
The polished actor said: "No, he didn't get in my mind, but there's something - I can't say it enough. Palo has a very original mind and when looking to track those things that might serve this movie I tended to look to him."
When asked for his thoughts on rock 'n' roll music, Penn added: "I think that rock 'n' roll has a place that's very important. It counters what I think has become the disease that has plagued society.
"That this movie, taking on the matters of one's own purpose and soul and history and compromises and some kind of pursuit to break through a depression - that's what rock 'n' roll always has been."
