Jennifer Hudson: "Music is my therapy"

Grammy and Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson has described music as her "therapy" after going through personal tragedy.

Hudson's mother, brother and nephew were shot in 2008, prompting her to turn to her art for solace.

"My music is my therapy" Hudson said in an interview with Pride. "Someone asked me to do a film about a year back, and I was like, 'No, I can't do a film right now because I can't be someone else if I don't know who I am.'

"I'm just trying to figure out where I am and who I am right now, and I could only resort back to music because that's like my home, my first love, my therapy, my everything. When I wake up in the morning I can't function if music is not playing, I can't even start the day, so it's a base for me."

The singer, who rose to fame on American Idol, returned to the show last night to perform US single 'Where You At'. She has previously revealed that her next UK single will be 'I Remember Me', due for release in early April.
