Bon Jovi: Kicks off concerts for lung cancer research
New Jersey rockers Bon Jovi is publicizing widely a concert series to raise funds for lung cancer research. The U.S. rockers decided to raise fund for lung cancer research after band mate Richie Sambora's father died of the disease last year.
Bon Jovi's group is dedicating the kickoff concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom in Manhattan on 12th February 2008 to the guitarist Richie Sambora's father, Adam Sambora. It comes days before the U.S. leg of the band's "Lost Highway World Tour."
Organizers said, the concert series will also feature performances by comedian Jerry Seinfeld, Brian Wilson, composer of many of the Beach Boys' hits, and Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.
Dr Mark Kris of Memorial Sloan-Kettering said in a statement, "Our goal is to cure lung cancer".
"We applaud Stand Up For A Cure for making lung cancer research a priority, and helping us get one step closer to our goal."
According to the National Cancer Institute, lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-related death among both men and women in the United States, and will kill more people this year than cancer of the breast, prostate and colorectal combined. |
