The 50th Grammy Awards were presented to the winners on Sunday night.
The Grammy Awards are presented annually by the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences of the United States for outstanding achievements in the record industry.
Kanye West and Amy Winehouse were the big winners of Grammy Awards, each scoring multiple trophies. But the biggest surprise of the night was when jazzman Herbie Hancock snatched the album of the year award away from both Winehouse and West, who were also nominated. Herbie Hancock received the award of Album of the Year for his River: The Joni Letters. He said, “I’d like to thank the academy for courageously breaking the mould.”
From London, Amy Winehouse performed ''I'm No Good'' and ''Rehab'' via satellite, won five Grammys, including Best New Artist, Best Pop Vocal Album (for Back to Black), and Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Vocal Performance (all for ''Rehab''). In her acceptance speech for Record of the Year, an ecstatic Winehouse thanked, among others, her label, her parents, and ''my Blake, incarcerated'' (referring to her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil); she dedicated the award to London, as the crowd cheered.
