Spice Girls: Cancel part of their tour
The Spice Girls have unexpectedly cut short their world tour, blaming "personal commitments" for their failure to perform in China, South Africa, Australia and Argentina.
It was announced in June that, as well as the Europe and the US, the girls planned to visit Australia, China, South Africa and Argentina.
The group, which reunited in a blaze of publicity last June, said on Friday that the tour will now end in Toronto on Feb 26. A source close to the band said they were keen to return to their families as four of them have young children but hinted that they may well tour again.
The shows had been originally scheduled for January but were postponed after the London leg of the tour was extended and will not now be rescheduled. Though reports had suggested a lack of interest in some of the cities. The Spice Girls tour kicked off in Vancouver on 2 December and has also taken them to cities in the US, Spain and Germany.
A spokesperson for the group told the AP, "due to the phenomenal demand for tickets in the U.K. and the U.S. along with the touring logistics for such a massive production it was not possible to fit everything in".
Via their Web site, Spice Girls showed gratitude for their fans and all of their support. "We want to thank everyone who came to see us. It was all so mad the first time round, so we've really been able to appreciate it properly this time".
The girl pop group Spice Girls formed in London in 1994. Consisting of Victoria Beckham, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton, Melanie Chisholm and Geri Halliwell. |
