Salma Hayek: "I was an illegal immigrant"

Latina beauty Salma Hayek has confessed that she was an "illegal immigrant" when she first entered the United States.

While giving an interview with V Magazine Spain, the actress revealed why the cause of undocumented workers' rights is so close to her heart.

"I was an illegal immigrant in the United States," she said.

"It was for a small period of time, but I still did it."

Salma also recalled the difficulties she faced in trying to find acting work as a Latina woman, adding: "I had to endure the worst time of all in terms of racial discrimination in Hollywood when I first started out.

"It was inconceivable to American directors and producers that a Mexican woman could have a lead role."
