Beyonce Knowles: Confirmed for 50th Grammys
Beyonce Knowles has uttered her intention to perform at the 50th Grammy Awards ceremony despite the fact that the event may not take off after all. In a released statement, Beyonce's father and manager, Matthew Knowles, confirmed that his daughter and his other artists are pro the gala. Mathew said, "Beyonce, as well as my other artists Solange and Trinitee 5:7 have been asked to participate and will do so. We have an incredible Beyonce performance that will be announced soon."
The writers strike has threatened the show to shut down and several artists like Jon Bon Jovi, 50 Cent, Justin Timberlake, Alicia Keys and many more reportedly agreed to this in support of Writers Guild of America. However, a couple of others decided to take side with the Recording Academy that owns the Grammys.
Beyonce Knowles's participation was preceded by Foo Fighters who had revealed their willingness in performing at the February 10 event. In the same press release, the band's frontman Dave Grohl's statement was read: "We're participating in 'My Grammy Moment' because it creates opportunities. Opportunities to write, compose, play and study music - skills that absolutely need to be passed on to generations to come. And thanks to 'My Grammy Moment,' a musician from that next generation is going to get the chance to audition on YouTube to play with us at the Grammys as part of our orchestra."
The 50th Annual Grammy Awards telecast is scheduled to take place at Los Angeles' Staples Center. No host and other performers have been confirmed yet although rumors are mounting that British singer Amy Winehouse and Kanye West will do a joint stage act should Winehouse is granted a U.S. visa.
Earlier this week, the Recording Academy, which is responsible for the Grammy Awards, sought permission from the WGA to stage the show. Execs with the WGA, however, did not immediately offer a statement in regards to the request. A spokesperson for the WGA told media outlets the request would likely not be granted.
Beyonce Knowles rose to fame as the creative force and lead singer of the R&B girl group Destiny's Child, the world's best-selling female group of all time. |
