Britney Spears: Loses visitng rights to her children
Pop singer Britney Spears missed a chance to convince a judge to restore her rights to visit her two young sons when she arrived at court in Los Angeles on Monday but Britney Spears left without entering the building where her case was being discussed.
According to reports, Britney Spears said: "I am scared. I want to get in the car. I am going in the car," after she was greeted by paparazzi when she arrived at the courthouse.
Police reportedly tried to coax the singer to get back out of her car later but she shouted "No", before leaving the scene.
After hearing testimony from five witnesses, the judge left in place a ruling barring Britney Spears from visiting her young sons at least until February 19, when another hearing is scheduled, lawyers for her ex-husband Kevin Federline said outside court. Superior court commissioner Scott Gordon issued the original order earlier this month, after police were summoned to a stand-off at the troubled pop star Britney Spears' home after she refused to hand over her sons to Federline's bodyguard.
Britney Spears, 26, was not legally required to attend the hearing, in which Gordon heard police and a court-appointed child monitor testify about the events earlier this month, but she had been expected to appear in court and ask for the reinstatement of her visitation rights for sons Jayden James, 1, and Sean Preston, 2, prompting a massive stake-out by paparazzi.
They waited all morning outside the courthouse for Britney Spears to show, but when she did turn up in the afternoon, she appeared overwhelmed by the attention and quickly got back into her car and drove off again.
"Move back. I'm scared," Britney Spears pleaded with photographers, according to the celebrity website TMZ.com. "Stop it. Stop it. I want to get back in the car. Just stop it. Let me get in the car, please!"
It was the latest incident in a saga of erratic behaviour displayed by Britney Spears since she divorced Federline in late 2006.
A friend of Britney Spears spoke of her fears the singer would indeed kill herself if she is barred from seeing her boys.
Mark Vincent Kaplan, Federline's lawyer, said outside court that his client's wish was "that he could one day parent both of these children with the mother". |
