 Uma Thurman: Testify against stalker
The trial of a man accused of stalking the actress Uma Thurman for two years was set for February 5 on Wednesday, and it appears likely the actress will be called to testify.
Jack Jordan, 36, is accused of trying to enter Thurman's movie trailer in Manhattan's SoHo neighbourhood in 2005 and of repeatedly contacting her and visiting her New York City home.
He faces charges of stalking and harassment.
Jackson Jordan, who told cops he fell in love with the blonde actress when "our eyes connected" while watching one of her movies, could get to see her up close because Uma Thurman would have to testify she was afraid of him, his lawyer said.
"My client has expressed a serious desire to go to trial," defense lawyer George Vomvolakis said.
Prosecutors had argued that Mr Jordan attempted to limit Thurman's freedom, as the basis for the coercion charge was an e-mail that Jack Jordan sent to Uma Thurman in a letter, he would kill himself if he saw the 37-year-old actress with another man.
Justice Gregory Carro dismissed that charge. "If you would like to kill yourself, it is not chargeable," Judge Carro told Mr Jordan.
Mr Jordan's lawyer, George Vomvolakis, said outside court that his client was eager to go to trial and that Uma Thurman was likely to appear.
"He has a bright future. He wants to be a teacher. With a criminal record, he can't do that," Mr Vomvolakis said. Mr Jordan has been held on $US10,000 ($11,500) bail since his arrest in October 2006. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail.
Uma Thurman has appeared in nearly 40 films including both Kill Bill movies and Pulp Fiction, for which she was nominated for best supporting actress. |
