Michelle Rodriguez: Christmas Eve in Jail
Not a very happy holiday for Michelle Rodriguez. The former Lost star reported to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynwood Sunday to begin serving her 180-day jail term for violating her probation in her DUI case.
The 29-year-old actress was sentenced by Judge Daviann Mitchell on October 10 after she failed to complete community service, despite signing a document stating she had, that stemmed from a previous 2004 drunk-driving and hit and run offence. She was sentenced in October on charges of violating her parole by failing to complete community service and drinking while onrestriction.
The actress' jail sentence stems from charges Michelle Rodriguez violated her parole from charges in three traffic offenses, including DUI and a hit and run. As part of her probation, Michelle Rodriguez was ordered to perform community service and refrain from drinking for 90 days, according to Reuters.
Michelle Rodriguez had previously been sentenced to 60 days in jail in May 2006, also for probation violation, but she was released an hour after her booking due to overcrowding in the jail system.
But Michelle’s not alone as the only network star behind bars this Christmas. Fox’s “24” leading actor Kiefer Sutherland is also in the midst of serving his own 48 day sentence. Over the years, her police file has been growing steadily thicker. In another news Michelle Rodriguez slammed lesbian publication Curve earlier this year for putting her on the cover and 'outing' her. "As far as rumors go of me coming out, I guess Curve magazine took it upon themselves to out me on the premise of their own suspicions." Rodriguez wrote on her web site. "Whatever, I'm not insulted, I have a big lesbian following, and for whatever reasons they show me love I'm never going to shun, disrespect or neglect anybody who shows me genuine non-psychotic Love... But I will Say this, to put words in someone's mouth and place people in categories affects them for sure, especially in this business."
Before reporting to jail, Michelle Rodriguez was in New Zealand, filming a starring role in James Cameron's upcoming sci-fi thriller, Avatar. The film is due for release in 2009. |
