'Disney's A Christmas Carol' No. 1 at box office
"Disney's A Christmas Carol", a 3-D adaptation of Charles Dickens's "A Christmas Carol", has debuted at the top of the US box office.
Robert Zemeckis's animated film, starring Jim Carrey, earned $31 million in its opening weekend.
According to Disney, nearly three-quarters of the film's sales came from cinemas showing it in 3D.
Last weekend's No. 1 movie, "Michael Jackson: This Is It", slipped down to number two with $14 million.
This week several movies have debuted in No. 1, 3, 4 and 6.
"The Men Who Stare at Goats", staring George Clooney, has debuted at No. 3 with $13.3 million, thriller "The Fourth Kind" at No. 4 with $12.5 million and director Richard Kelly's "The Box" at No. 6 with $7.9 million.
"Paranormal Activity", which was at No. 2 last weekend, dropped down to fifth position with $8.6 million.
