Roman Polanski: Sex case hearing set for December 10
A California appeals court in Los Angeles on Monday has set a new date for a hearing in the sex case against Roman Polanski.
Lawyers for Roman Polanski will argue for the director's three-decade-old sex case on December 10. A three-judge panel from California's 2nd District Court of Appeal will listen the arguments from director's lawyers about why it should require a lower court to decide whether to dismiss charges against the fugitive director, whether he is present or not.
The 76 year old Oscar winning director was arrested in Zurich on September 26 as he arrived in to collect a lifetime achievement prize at a film festival, based on a US warrant issued in 1978.
Earlier, Switzerland's highest criminal court has rejected bail for Roman Polanski, saying there was a "high" risk that he could flee the country.
Polanski pleaded guilty to having sex with a minor in 1977 and spent 42 days in prison undergoing psychiatric tests. But he fled the United States before sentencing and has not returned since because he believed a judge would sentence him to up to 50 years behind bars despite a plea agreement for time already served.
The US requested his extradition two weeks ago.
