Bill Cosby: Honored with Mark Twain Award
American comedian and actor Bill Cosby was honored with the nation's top humor prize at The Kennedy Center on Monday night. He received the most prestigious Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
The Mark Twain Prize is America's foremost award for humor, presented annually by The Kennedy Center for the performing arts to an individual who has made a significant contribution to American humor.
Chris Rock and Jerry Seinfeld saluted their fellow funny man Bill Cosby along with two co-stars, Phylicia Rashad and Malcolm-Jamal Warner, from "The Cosby Show".
The 72 year old Cosby is best known for his 1980's sitcom "The Cosby Show", which has enjoyed a long run on syndication.
Cosby has won other big awards, including the Man of the Year awards from Harvard University's famed performance group, the Hasty Pudding Theatricals in 1969, Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2002 and Bob Hope Humanitarian Award in 2003. Still, the Mark Twain Prize is special because he says Twain was the "quintessential American writer".
The ceremony will air on November 4 on PBS.
