 'Paranormal Activity' tops US box office
The low budget film "Paranormal Activity" has surprised the box office winning a weekend battle of horror films.
"Paranormal Activity", which was on third place last week, took over the No 1 spot with $22 million. The story centres on a young and middle class couple who move into a suburban home and their they become increasingly disturbed by a presence that may or may not be demonic, but is certainly most active in the middle of the night.
Lionsgate's "Saw VI", starring Tobin Bell, debuted at second place with $14.8 million. It was the worst opening ever for Lionsgate's Saw series, which had a previous low of $18.3 million for the original movie.
Warner Bros' tale "Where The Wild Things Are", which was on top place last week, fell to No 3 with $14.4 million. Spike Jonze's adaptation of the beloved children's book by Maurice Sendak raised its total to $54 million.
"Law Abiding Citizen" slipped down to fourth place from second place with $12.7 million.
Sony Pictures' "Astro Boy" debuted at sixth place with $7 million.
Another horror movie "Cirque Du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant" debuted at No 8 with $6.3 million.
