Andrew Lloyd Webber: Diagnosed with cancer
British composer of musical theatre, Andrew Lloyd Webber, has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He has been admitted to hospital and is undergoing treatment.
His spokesman said on Sunday that Webber's condition was in its "early stages" and that the composer was expected to be fully back at work before the end of the year.
The 61 year old Andrew Lloyd Webber is the elder son of organist William Lloyd Webber and brother of the cellist Julian Lloyd Webber. He started composing at the age of six, and published his first piece at the age of nine.
Andrew Lloyd Webber is best known for his songs which include "The Music of the Night" from The Phantom of the Opera, "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar, "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina" from Evita, "Any Dream Will Do" from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat and "Memory" from Cats.
Webber has also gained a number of honours, including a knighthood in 1992, an Academy Award, a Golden Globe, three Grammy Awards, seven Tony Awards and the Kennedy Center Honors in 2006.
The Oscar-winning composer recently announced plans for his eagerly anticipated sequel to "Phantom of the Opera", "Love Never Dies" which will be directed by Jack O'Brien.
"Love Never Dies" is scheduled to open at the Adelphi Theatre in the West End on 9th March, 2010 and on Broadway on 11th November, 2010.
