Sir Elton John: Cancels show due to flu

Sir Elton John was bound to cancel a major show at a short notice after contracting flu.

The singer had to pull out of the gig at Sheffield Arena as doctors had advised him to rest.

According to a spokesperson, sir Elton was "terribly disappointed" to cancel the Red Piano show.

He said:  "Elton is terribly disappointed that he is unable to perform tonight's Red Piano show for the people of Sheffield.

"He has always enjoyed a tremendous reaction from the audiences every time he has performed at the Arena."

Promoters of the show have said that the other dates he is due to play this month - including one at Newcastle's Metro Radio Arena on Saturday, will remain unchanged.

In addition, the ticket holders have been asked to retain their tickets till a further announcement is made on Monday.

Sir Elton is also due to perform at London's Wembley Arena on Tuesday, and at Liverpool's Echo Arena on Wednesday.
