Cheryl Cole: Single goes to number one in midweek charts
Cheryl Cole's debut single has shot to top spot in the UK midweek charts.
The Girls Aloud singer's new solo single "Fight For This Love" blew away all the competition, selling a whopping 134,000 copies in just one day. The song was written by Steve Kipner, Andre Merritt and Wayne Wilkins.
The 26 year old Cheryl Cole got a huge boost from her performance on Sunday's X Factor, which saw three of her four Girls Aloud bandmates in the audience and from publicity over whether she would mime or sing live.
Cole has beaten first day sales of Alexandra Burke's number one single "Bad Boys", which sold 185,000 copies over a seven-day period. She also smashed sales of Robbie Williams' comeback single "Bodies", which notched up 88,000.
The song is set to be the fastest-selling single of the year so far.
Official Charts Company boss Martin Taylor said, "She is likely to set the sales standard by which everyone else will be judged till Christmas and for the rest of 2009".
