Chris Rock: Judge refuses to block comedian's 'Good Hair'
A federal judge has refused to stop the release of the great stand-up comedian Chris Rock's film "Good Hair". On Monday, U.S. District Judge Dale Fischer ruled against a filmmaker who accused the comedian of stealing her idea for the film.
Fischer said in court that before taking the decision, she watched both Regina Kimbell's 2006 documentary "My Nappy Roots" and Rock's "Good Hair" and didn't see substantial similarities.
Fischer said that the films "don't seem to be made for the same audience" and that portions of them "are not similar at all".
Kimbell was seeking an order to block the film's release. She asked for $5 million in damages in her lawsuit, which accuses Rock of copyright infringement and unfair competition and states that her film "My Nappy Roots" was the basis for "Good Hair".
Chris Rock said that he was actually inspired for the documentary by his 7 year old daughter, who once asked him, "How come I don't have good hair?"
"Good Hair", which has been opened in limited release on October 9, will open nationwide on October 23.
