'Couples Retreat' number one at box office
Universal Pictures' "Couples Retreat", starring Vince Vaughn and Jason Bateman, has debuted at the top of the US box office with $35.3 million in its first week of release, according to preliminary figures on Sunday.
The story of the comedy centered around four couples who settle into a tropical-island resort for a vacation. While one of the couples is there to work on the marriage, the others set out to jet ski, spa and enjoy some fun in the sun. They soon discover that participation in the resort's couples therapy is not optional.
"Zombieland", which was on top last week, slipped to number two with $15 million over the weekend.
The animated feature "Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs" has also fallen a place to number three, earning $12 million.
The 3D re-release of "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" has came down to number four with $7.7 million.
This week's highest climber comes from the horror film "Paranormal Activity", which jumped from 20 to number five spot with $7 million.
"Surrogates", starring Bruce Willis, took sixth place with US$4.1 million.
