Jerry Seinfeld: Turns marriage into comedy
American comedian Jerry Seinfeld teamed up with Ellen Rakieten to produce his TV project "The Marriage Ref", a comedy panel show where comedians and celebrities sit in judgment on people's marriages. After his highly popular TV show "Seinfeld" from 1989 to 1998, Seinfeld is turning to comedy-reality show.
Seinfeld is now at the Mipcom TV festival, Cannes to launche his first show of "The Marriage Ref".
"The Marriage Ref" is a comedy panel game that airs real clips of married couples arguing at home. The show will feature celebrities, comedians and sports personalities who will comment, judge and offer different suggestions to real-life couples.
In a media conference, Seinfeld said, "To me, marriage is this great comedy planet that so many people around the world live on".
"This is not a therapy show, it's a comedy show. After nine years of marriage, I have discovered that the comedic potential of this subject is quite rich", he joked.
Seinfeld said that his aim is to support the concept of marriage, not to exploit the ups and downs of domestic life.
"The feedback is phenomenal. There is an enormous amount of interest in the show internationally," Endemol chief commercial officer Tom Toumazis said about the comedy show.
The show will air in prime time on NBC in March next year.
