Dan Brown: Novel breaks sales record in hours
Dan Brown's "The Lost Symbol" has broken sales record in its first 36 hours of UK release than any other novel, its publisher and booksellers said.
Dan Brown is an American author of thriller fiction. He is best known for the 2003 bestselling novel, "The Da Vinci Code".
Publishers said that readers in United States, Canada and United Kingdom grabbed around 1 million hardcover copies after it was released on Tuesday.
Sonny Mehta, editor in chief of Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group, said, "We are seeing historic, record-breaking sales across all types of our accounts in North America for 'The Lost Symbol".
Both Amazon.com Inc, the world's largest online retailer, and Barnes & Noble Inc claimed record one-day sales for adult fiction.
"The Lost Symbol" is Brown's first book which came six years after the release of "The Da Vinci Code". The novel follows the adventures of Harvard professor Robert Langdon and is set in the secret world of Freemasons in Washington D.C.
"The Da Vinci Code" sold 80 million copies worldwide. It is UK's biggest-selling paperback of all time.
