Mary J. Blige: Apologizes for not participating at Jackson tribute
Apparently, scheduling conflicts will keep Mary J. Blige from Jackson Tribute Concert which is to be held in Vienna.
The singer confirmed on Thursday that she will not be able to participate in Michael Jackson Tribute Concert, planned by Jermaine Jackson.
Blige said: "There's a lot going on at the time — I'm really, really sorry that I'm not gonna be able to be there."
A contractual obligation in Milan will prevent the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul from making a trip to Austria, the venue of the gig.
The singer said MJ's music meant a lot to her and she was inspired by the King of Pop, to pursue a musical career.
"When we didn't have anything and we were in our neighborhood, we were running home cutting school to watch the 'Thriller' video on MTV," she said. "He broke barriers that day and every day since then."
Blige said she's looking forward to Janet Jackson's tribute to her late brother this Sunday at the 2009 MTV Video Music Awards. There are a number of songs Janet could perform, but any selection will do for Blige — she's rooting for Jackson.
As previoualy announced, Jermaine Jackson, Natalie Cole and Sister Sledge are due to perform. Chris Brown and Akon are also slatted to appear, though Brown has not yet confirmed.
