Mandy Moore: To voice Disney's 'Rapunzel'
American actress and singer Mandy Moore has been selected by Walt Disney Pictures to voice the lead role in its Digital 3D-animated musical action-adventure "Rapunzel".
"Chuck" star Zachary Levi will voice for the dashing bandit who finds himself on the road with the rebellious teen "hair apparent".
Byron Howard and Nathan Greno will direct the film and Oscar winner Alan Menken will compose the music.
"Rapunzel" is set for 2010 release.
The project was previously known as "Rapunzel Unbraided" which was developed years ago by Disney, but eventually faded. When Disney/Pixar chief creative officer John Lasseter came aboard to run the place in 2006, he chucked out all the previous ideas and started afresh.
Disney's new version "Rapunzel" picks up with the princess, famous for her 70 feet of golden hair, has been stolen from her parents' castle as an infant and imprisoned. Now a teenager, Rapunzel escapes and goes on the run with a bandit, pursued by her captor.
