Michael Jackson: Crystal glove sells for $49,000
Late pop icon Michael Jackson's crystal-encrusted right-hand white glove has been sold at an auction in Melbourne for US$49,000.
Auction house Bonhams & Goodmans said that the glove, which was made of white spandex and covered with hand-sewn clear crystals, went under the hammer in Melbourne late on Sunday. It was the first to go on sale since the singer's death on June 25.
Jackson threw the glove into a crowd after a film premiere of his film "Ghosts" on November 15, 1996 while he was visiting the country as part of his HIStory world tour.
Music journalist Peter Holmes and his friend Bill Hibble were apparently among the few audience members. The glove was caught by Bill Hibble.
Hibble has since died and his father put the glove up for sale.
The glove was bought by the Las Vegas Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in the United States.
After taking hold of glove, Las Vegas Hard Rock curator Warwick Stone said that they would keep the glove alongside memorabilia from Elvis Presley and Sex Pistol guitarist Sid Vicious.
Stone said three more Jackson gloves are likely to come on to the market in the United States later this year.
Stone said, "I think I got the bargain".
