Ludacris: Offers 20 cars to contestants
Grammy-winning American rapper and actor Ludacris has given away 20 cars to the contestants who submitted essays detailing their struggles to keep their jobs for a lack of wheels of their own.
Teaming with his Ludacris Foundation and Nissan South, the 31 year old Ludacris awared the used cars to Atlanta residents on Sunday.
The rapper said that he was shocked after reading thousands of essays about people who almost lost their job or unable to find job because they didn't have transportation for themselves. He felt he could step in and help them.
Ludacris said, "To be efficient, you need some transportation of your own to get there. That's why I wanted to give back to those who need it".
The lucky winners will also get free gas for 30 days. The winners are responsible for tags, registration, tax and insurance. About 4,000 contestants submitted a 300-word essay to Ludacris Foundation, explaining why they need a car.
The Ludacris Foundation was started by Ludacris and Chaka Zulu. It is an organization that helps young middle and high school students motivate themselves in creative arts.
The president of the Ludacris Foundation said, "This year we want to do something to help youth and families manage during these tough economic times. Having a vehicle to get back and forth to work and daycare can make the difference in getting and keeping a job".
Ludacris won Grammys for Best Rap Album for "Release Therapy" and Best Rap Song for "Money Maker".
