John Lasseter: Wins lifetime award at Venice Film Festival
Academy Award-winning American animator and director John Lasseter received the Golden Lion for Lifetime Achievement along with the directors of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios at the 66th Venice International Film Festival on September 6, 2009.
It is the first time in festival history that the award was given not just one filmmaker but an entire studio. Othe four directors: Andrew Stanton, Pete Docter, Brad Bird and Lee Unkrich were also rewarded at the festival.
Lasseter, the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, said at the ceremony, "This is a tremendous honour".
"Pixar is founded on true creative collaboration," he said after receiving the award from Oscar winning director George Lucas.
Walt Disney Animation Studios is a key element of The Walt Disney Company and the oldest existing animation studio in the world.
Pixar Animation Studios is a CGI animation production company based in Emeryville, California, United States. Pixar started in 1979 as the Graphics Group, a part of the Computer Division of Lucasfilm before it was bought by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs in 1986. The Walt Disney Company bought Pixar in 2006.
Pixar has made 10 feature films to date, four of which have won Oscars since the animation category was introduced in 2001.
Lasseter said, "We really set out to deeply entertain an audience, not just children but adults as well".
