Phil Spector: To be shifted to different prison
American record producer and songwriter Phil Spector, who is in prison to serve a sentence of 19 years to life, will be shifted to a different jail to make room for inmates requiring outpatient mental health treatment. He recently caomplained about his prison quarters but later said he wanted to stay put.
California Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton said, "It's not about Spector. It's about getting services to other inmates".
The "Wall of Sound" producer will be moved from the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility & State Prison in Corcoran to Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga this week.
Terry Thornton said that the 69 year old Spector will be in a "sensitive needs yard" comparable to the one where he has been in Corcoran due to his notoriety.
Spector's wife Rachelle Short, who is also a singer and actress, is terrified that he will die in the new facility. She said, "They are sending Phil there to die. He is scared to death. When I saw him on Saturday, he was shaking. We are trying to appeal over this, but he's been told he has no time".
Phil Spector is serving 19 years to life for the murder of actress Lana Clarkson.
