Elton John: Reference to autocue surprises audience
It is really surprising to see Sir Elton John Elton John referring to an autocue while performing his own hit "Your Song."
He seemed to have forgotten the words to the song which he had been singing for about four decades, while he was playing at a private birthday party in Monaco.
The device was placed behind a flower arrangement to hide it from the audience. According to reports, he was paid £1m for the performance.
The song that Elton wrote with Bernie Taupin, was released in 1970. He must have sung it hundreds of times since then, seeing it re-enter the charts at number 4 in 2002.
Inspite of that, even the first line 'It's a little bit funny, this feeling inside' was on a teleprompter.
'He really got stuck into the performance, giving it everything. But some people noticed a screen hidden in the flowers.' A partygoer has said.
It's funny that Elton needed help with lyrics of 'Your Song' which his fans could sing even in their sleep.
'Your Song' was the pop knight's first hit single and it reached the top ten on both sides of the Atlantic.
His representative insisted that the autocue was only used to remind the star of the correct running order of the hour-long medley of hits.
Brian Larter, managing director of the autocue firm Autoscript UK, said: ' Everyone uses them, from Macca to Elton.' |
