'Inglourious Basterds' tops US box office
"Inglourious Basterds" starring Brad Pitt and directed by Quentin Tarantino has opened as the top film in U.S. box office with $37.6 million over the weekend, more than doubling it's closest competition, sci-fi drama "District 9". In the film, Pitt leads a group of Jewish-American Nazi killers.
Last week's topper sci-fi thriller "District 9" has slipped down to the number two spot with $18.9 million.
Paramount Pictures' "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" has also dropped one slot to number three with $12.5 million.
In fourth place, "The Time Traveller's Wife" made $10 million and Meryl Streep's Julie & Julia appeared at number five with $9 million.
The other new films of this week, Robert Rodriguez's animated movie "Shorts" entered at number six with $6.6 million and the Fox comedy "Post Grad" at number ten with $2.8 million.
