David Mamet: To pen Anne Frank film
Oscar nominated screenwriter and playwrite David Mamet is writing and directing a new film version of "The Diary of Anne Frank" for Disney, the Walt Disney Co said on Wednesday.
Mamet's script would be based on the original diary, written by Anne Frank while she and her family hid from Nazis in Amsterdam, with the stage play written by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich and Mamet's new material.
The 1959's film "The Diary of Anne Frank", directed by George Stevens, won three Oscars.
Cast and release date for David Mamet's version has not been announced.
Anne Frank, whose birth name is Annelies Marie Frank, died at the age of 15 in a German concentration camp during World War II. She gained international fame after the publication of her journal, which described her family's attempt to hide from the Nazis in Amsterdam.
