Kevin Costner: Plans to help Canada festival victims
American actor and musician Kevin Costner said that he wants to return to Alberta to support those who are affected by the collapse of an outdoor stage during a severe thunderstorm that killed one person and injured many people at a country music festival.
In a statement on Monday, Kevin Costner said, "We are so sad about the loss of life and injury that occurred on a day that carried so much promise, but turned so wicked so quickly. We hope to return to Alberta in the future to help with the healing".
Kevin Costner along with his band, Modern West, was on his latest tour in Camrose, Alberta, Canada when a terrifying windstorm swept through the site of the Big Valley Jamboree. The incident happened just before Costner and his band were to enter.
The strong blast of wind collapsed the main stage so quickly that organizers did not have time to warn thousands of fans crowded around it.
One of organizers said that one woman died when a giant speaker fell on her, two hospitalized in critical condition and about 75 suffered injuries.
Country singer Billy Currington was performing his last song when the stage collapsed on top of him, leaving the country star with a minor concussion.
Kevin Costner scaped unscathed, but two of his crew members were hurt.
Arnold Robinson, Costner's publicist, said, "My understanding is that they sustained cuts and bruising. Kevin went to the hospital with them, they were treated and released, and he did visit with others that were injured while there".
Robinson said that Costner wants to do more to help.
