Nas: Ordered to make monthly payments to Kelis
Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Louis Meisinger has ordered Nas to pay Kelis nearly $40,000 every month as support for the near future, a day after the singer gave birth to a baby boy. The judge has issued the order at a Thursday hearing.
American rapper and actor Nas got married to Kelis, American R&B singer-songwriter, in 2005. Kelis filed for divorce in April 2009, shortly after announcing her first pregnancy, citing "irreconcilable differences". The divorce is reportedly in its final stages.
Singer Kelis and her estranged husband Nas have become parents of a baby boy named Knight on July 22, 2009, their first child together. The baby weighed 7 pounds, 8 ounces. The birth was announced by Nas, whose birth name is Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, via an online video.
Neither Nas nor Kelis, whose full name is Kelis Rogers, attended Thursday's hearing.
According to the court order, Kelis will receive $30,471 in spousal support per month and their son will receive $9,027 per month.
A hearing on whether the payments should be altered will be heard on Sept. 8.
Judge Louis Meisinger told to Kelis Rogers' attorney, Laura Wasser, that the singer has 30 days to decide whether to return to the couple's Los Angeles home. Jones is paying to maintain the property in the meantime.
The judge also ordered Nas to pay $45,000, Laura Wasser's fees and for a forensic accountant.
Kelis Rogers' publicist, Tracy Nguyen, said, "The beautiful baby boy and his mother are doing wonderful".
