Jay Leno: Wins cybersquatting case
American stand-up comedian and former 'The Tonight Show' host, Jay Leno has won a cybersquatting case against a Texas man who was misusing the domain name thejaylenoshow.com to direct Internet users to a real estate website.
Guadalupe Javier Zambrano, a real estate agent in Katy, Texas, has been ordered to transfer the domain name to Leno in the next 10 days.
In a ruling issued on Thursday, the United Nation's World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) said that Leno had common law trademark rights to his name after a 30-years service to the entertainment industry, even though Guadalupe Zambrano registered the site in 2004.
William Towns, an independent arbitrator appointed by the Geneva-based agency, found that Zambrano did not have any legitimate rights to the disputed web address and had registered it in "bad faith".
Jay Leno will host a new comedy show on NBC from September after a 17-year run at "The Tonight Show" which ended last May. NBC announced last week that the new prime-time talk show will be called "The Jay Leno Show" from September 14.
