Jerry Lewis: Set to direct Broadway's 'Professor'
The veteran comedian Jerry Lewis will make his theatrical directing debut on a stage version of "The Nutty Professor", the 1963 film he co-wrote and in which he starred as the nerdy title character.
Marvin Hamlisch, who won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, a Tony and a Pulitzer Prize, will compose the music and Rupert Holmes will pen the book and lyrics for the show.
The show is expected to land on Broadway during the 2010-2011 season, the show's publicists said in a news release.
The 83 year old Lewis has never directed for the stage. He last appeared on a Broadway stage in 1995 in a revival of "Damn Yankees".
