Michael Jackson: Dies at fifty on June 25
The King of pop, Michael Jackson, died in Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon after suffering an apparent cardiac arrest at his rented Bel-Air home.. He was fifty.
His health has commanded as much publicity as his hit songs over his music career. He had had recurring health problems like-
vitiligo, a skin disorder in 1990, including several plastic surgeries, was addicted to painkillers (for pain he developed after he was burned while filming a Pepsi commercial in 1984).
A celebrity biographer claimed Jackson suffered from a rare respiratory disease and was in need of a lung transplant- the singer's publicists have denied the claim. Rumours about Jackson's health surfaced again last month after his representatives postponed several of his London comeback shows, citing the need for more rehearsal time.
The circumstances surrounding Jackson's death Thursday were sketchy. Reportedly, Jackson was found unconscious and not breathing. Paramedics performed CPR and rushed him to the hospital - a six-minute drive away - where he was pronounced dead.
Jackson's unexpected death at age 50 during a comeback attempt stunned the world. He had been rehearsing long hours for an epic 50-concert stand in London. He was described to be very frail.
His mother Catherine, brothers Randy and Jermaine, and sisters Janet and LaToya, arrived separately at the hospital for a tense and tearful vigil. His brother, Jermaine, told a news conference that Jackson was believed to have suffered cardiac arrest, a condition that afflicts 300,000 Americans a year.
However the reason is still unknown till the autopsy reports are confirmed.
