Heidi Montag: Hospitalized in Costa Rica
"The Hills" star Heidi Montag was hospitalized on Saturday in Costa Rica after "convulsingly throwing up" due to the "torture" she and her husband Spencer Pratt received on the set of their latest reality show "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!".
Rick Rhodes, Heidi's publicist, said that Spencer Pratt accompanied his wife on the ambulance ride and remains by her bedside in the hospital.
Various reports said that she was suffering from a stomach infection, but Rhodes refused to comment anything on the matter.
The news was broken by Heidi's sister-in-law, Stephanie Pratt via Twitter. She wrote, "Heidi was rushed to the hospital and has an IV in her arm after being locked in a dark room for 3 days w no food or water. Pls pray she will be ok...Her family is flying out to see her in the hospital".
They were placed in "isolation" from the other cast members by the show's producers, as punishment for what one exec termed "insincere, lazy, entitled" behavior by the couple.
Stephanie Pratt blamed NBC for going "too far" in punishing the couple "like criminals" after they tried to quit the bug-eating, jungle-surviving show after just one episode and then begged to return.
ITV Studios, which produces the show, said that it would never harm any of its participants.
In a statement, ITV Studios and producer of "I'm a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here!" said, "ITV has been producing this format around the world for many years and the health of the celebrity participants are of the utmost importance. A medic and a doctor are present at the location at all times for all participants. All allegations of the celebrities being deprived of food and water are completely untrue".
