Phil Spector: To be sentenced Friday
American record producer and songwriter Phil Spector, whose fame reached its height in the early 1960s, is expected to be sentenced to at least 15 years in Los Angeles on May 29, where he was convicted of second-degree murder in the death of actress Lana Clarkson.
Lawyers for Phil Spector are seeking a reduction in his sentence for the murder.
Attorney Doron Weinberg said in a court document filed on Wednesday that Spector is not disputing the mandated sentence of 15 years to life in prison for his second-degree murder conviction. But Weinberg wants a sentencing enhancement for use of a gun to be trimmed to three years instead of the four requested by prosecutors.
Weinberg also said in the court document that Spector isn't responsible in actress Lana Clarkson's death and that the prosecutors' case was based on "conjecture, not facts".
The famed music producer was found guilty on April 13 of shooting Clarkson at his home in 2003.
