Oprah Winfrey: Apologizes to author James Frey
The famous American media personality Oprah Winfrey has apologized to author James Frey for shaming him on her talk show in 2006, after it was came to know that Frey has fabricated details for his best-selling memoir, "A Million Little Pieces". Her spokeswoman said this on Wednesday.
Vanity Fair has first reported Winfrey's apology on it's website with the author saying he felt "grateful" for Winfrey's gesture.
Winfrey was one of Frey's most vocal boosters. She selected Pieces for her book club in 2005 and propelled it to bestseller status.
Next year, when it was exposed that Frey had invented some details in the supposedly non-fiction memoir and written that he once spent three months behind bars when in reality it was a few hours, Winfrey lambasted him as a guest on her show.
On her talk show in 2006, Winfrey said him, "It is difficult for me to talk to you, because I really feel duped". She accused the author of betraying his readers.
But Winfrey seems to have changed her views.
According to a Vanity Fair report, Frey said that Winfrey called him last fall to tell him "I felt I owe you an apology" and she explained that her lambasting of him sprang from her sense of feeling betrayed, according to the Vanity Fair report.
Frey told, "It was a nice surprise to hear from her, and I really appreciated the call and the sentiment".
