Snoop Dogg: Cleared over fan assault claims
American hip-hop singer Snoop Dogg has been cleared of assaulting a fan at one of his concerts in 2005. On Friday, a civil jury found Snoop Dogg not guilty of beating a fan on stage while the rapper was performing.
The Santa Monica jury ruled that the rapper, whose real name is Cordozar Calvin Broadus, was not directly involved in the attack on Richard Monroe Jr. But Snoop Dogg's label and other involved parties were ordered to pay Monroe Jr $449,400 in damages.
Monroe Jr. claimed that he has suffered serious injuries and has been beaten by the rapper and others working with him, after Monroe got on stage during a Dogg's performance and tried to put his arms around the rapper. Monroe testified that he believed he had been invited on stage.
Monroe was seeking $22 million in damages.
The 12-person jury cleared Snoop Dogg of assault after watching the video footage of the incident which showed performers and security staff involved in the struggle.
