Rihanna: Returns to red carpet
The pop singer Rihanna is back, at least on the red carpet.
The singer made her first major public appearance since the February incident involving boyfriend Chris Brown. Brown was charged with two felony counts of assault and has since pleaded not guilty.
Rihanna arrived on Monday at the annual Costume Institute of The Metropolitan Museum gala in New York City.
Rihanna surprised crowds at the gala arriving in black capri pants, a black jacket and bow tie. She was the last celebrity to walk on the carpet. She posed for photos but did not talk to reporters.
Other stars including Madonna, Eva Mendes, Victoria Beckham, Jessica Biel and Rachel Weisz stepped out for the hottest fashion event of the year.
Kate Hudson, who arrived with designer Stella McCartney wearing one of her designs, said, "This is a night for designers".
Anna Wintour, the editor of Vogue magazine, hosted the gala, which this year served as the kickoff to "The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion" exhibit. Kate Moss co-chaired the event with Justin Timberlake.
