Jill Scott: Gives birth to a baby boy
American soul and R&B songstress Jill Scott and fiance Lil' John Roberts welcomed their first child together on April 20, son Jett Hamilton Roberts.
Jett was born at 4:20 p.m. and weighed in at 7 lbs., 8 oz.
Jill Scott, who recently appeared in the lead role of the BBC/HBO series "The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency", based on the popular novels by Alexander McCall Smith, discovered she was pregnant shortly before leaving for Botswana to film the show.
The three-time Grammy winner Scott said to People, "At one point I was trying to gain weight for the role, and I noticed I had put on 7 lbs. in 7 days. And I thought, my god! What's going on here. I thought something was wrong with me, and I found out I was pregnant the day I was supposed to leave for Africa".
In January 2009, Scott told at the Television Critics Association conference in Los Angeles, "The first trimester I spent in Botswana. That was one of the biggest challenges of my life. First trimester! You're sick every morning. It was seven hours time difference, the heat, the bugs, the 14 hour days".
The new parents, who reportedly began dating in 2007 and shared a long on-stage kiss at a concert in New York's Carnegie Hall on June 20, 2008, told the audience that they are engaged.
Having been unable to get pregnant during her five-year marriage to first husband Lyzel Williams, Scott expressed relief earlier this year that everything was going so well.
In an interviews with People, she told, "I definitely had issues over the course of my life, reproduction issues. I was married for five years and could never conceive a child. Until now ... It's the most amazing thing that's ever happened to me".
