Oprah Winfrey: Plans to make Twitter debut

Oprah Winfrey has taken an endeavor in a new field. The popular talk show host has planned to send her first message on the popular micro-blogging service Twitter on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" on Friday.

Oprah Winfrey has made an announcement of creating her Twitter account, @oprah, on her Facebook page on Thursday and attracted over 34,000 followers in just a few hours.

She added that the guest on her show on Friday would be the man whom she described as the "King of Twitter”, the Hollywood actor Ashton Kutcher.

Kutcher, who got married to actress Demi Moore, is presently engaged in a high-profile battle with 24-hours news channel CNN of becoming the first to gather 1 million followers on Twitter.

Kutcher, who uses the handle @aplusk on Twitter, was nearly thirty thousand followers on Thursday while CNN's breaking news feed, @cnnbrk, needed another 25,000 followers to reach one million.

Oprah Winfrey is the latest celebrity who began Twitter, which allows users to pepper their followers with messages of a maximum 140 characters.

Other celebrities include British actor and playwright Stephen Fry, NBA star Shaquille O'Neal and seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong.
