American Idol: Another finalist eliminated
After much clamoring from the judges, time is over for Scott MacIntyre on "American Idol."
To be specific, this twenty three year old piano player from Scottsdale, Ariz., who sang Survivor's "The Search is Over" in hopes of being saved by the judges, received the fewest number of viewer votes on Wednesday on the popular Fox singing competition.
"This is really tough." "I really, really like you, Scott. I'm looking over there, and I think there's a bunch of talented singers. This decision isn't just based on you. It's whether I think — or we think — someone is more talented over there. This is the problem." The judge Simon Cowell said after MacIntyre reprised his performance without electric guitar.
In a new rule this season, the judges have the power of saving a contestant whom they feel has been wrongly eliminated by voting viewers before the final five finalists are selected. According to Cowell, two of the four judges of the show wanted MacIntyre to stay while the other two wanted him to go. MacIntyre has pleaded to remain in the competition as the judges argued and audience screamed.
"I know I can please you another week, Simon," added MacIntyre.
The judges decided not to rescue MacIntyre. Other lowest scoring voters were 24-year-old mother of three Lil Rounds from Memphis, Tenn., and 22-year-old college student Anoop Desai from Chapel Hill, N.C.
"Idol" host Ryan Seacrest added that out of 34 million viewers, only 30,000 viewer votes have been cast this week thereby separating MacIntyre from Desai.
The parade of praise also continued for twenty seven year old actor Adam Lambert, who earned a standing ovation Tuesday from Cowell after his performance of Gary Jules' arrangement of Tears for Fears' "Mad World." On Wednesday the other judges echoed the sentiment since they did not have time to comment on Tuesday's performance show, which ran for 8 minutes over schedule.
Seven remaining contestants are Kris Allen, Danny Gokey, Adam Lambert, Matt Giraud, Desai, Rounds, and Allison Iraheta. |
