Carrie Underwood: Wins ACM Entertainer of the Year 2009
American country pop singer and songwriter Carrie Underwood captured the entertainer of the year on Sunday at the 44th Academy of Country Music Awards 2009. She beat Kenny Chesney to win the award. She broke Kenny Chesney's four-year win streak. Underwood secured her status as country's hottest star on a night that felt like a changing of the guards.
Carrie Underwood is the first female to win the honor since the Dixie Chicks did it back in 2000 and just the seventh since the awards were instituted in 1970.
Underwood, the winner of the fourth season of "American Idol", said, "I've had a lot of good moments in the past four years. This one takes the cake. Thank you God, thank you fans, thank you to ACM for nominating me in the first place. I never thought I'd be nominated and never thought I'd win. I'm shaking. I don't know what to say".
Oklahoma born Carrie Underwood, who first shot to fame by winning TV's "American Idol" competition in 2005, has since become country music's biggest star and achieved enormous crossover success.
Underwood also won top female vocalist of 2009, repeating her win last year.
