Phil Spector: Fate in the hands of jurors
A jury of 7 men and 5 women ended a first day of deliberations on the fate of legendary music producer Phil Spector thereby accusing of shooting dead an actress at his Los Angeles home almost 6 years ago. The officials have brought out the confirmation of the news.
After hearing 5 months of testimony in the retrial of Spector, jurors must decide whether Spector had committed murder, the lesser charge of manslaughter or whether actress Lana Clarkson herself had committed suicide. The defense has brought out the allegation.
The jurors adjourned without having come to a conclusion, with the Los Angeles Superior Court by giving the indication that they are going to resume their deliberations on Friday.
Sixty nine year old Spector, who narrowly escaped conviction in the year 2007 after a six-month trial came to an end with a jury being deadlocked 10-2 in favor of convicting him of murder.
The prosecutors have alleged that Phil Spector shot Clarkson as she made the attempt of leaving his residence after meeting him for the first time only hours earlier at the Hollywood nightclub where she worked.
According to the defense lawyers, forty year old Clarkson, who has been highly acclaimed for her role in Roger Corman's 1985 cult classic "The Barbarian Queen" but whose career had stalled at the time of her death, killed herself.
Phil Spector has been regarded as one of the most powerful figures in the world of pop music. In the early 1960s he was responsible for hits including “Be My Baby, Baby", "Da Doo Ron Ron," and "You've Lost That Lovin' Feelin'."
Famous for his work with The Beatles, Tina Turner, The Righteous Brothers, The Ronettes and The Ramones, Spector is going to face a minimum of fifteen years of life imprisonment if he is found guilty of second degree murder.
