Sean Penn: To act in 'Stooges'

Actor and filmmaker Sean Penn has signed on to play the role of Larry Fine in the Farrelly brothers' updated movie "The Three Stooges". The studio MGM confirmed this.

Farrelly Brothers, who will direct the movie, has written the script. It's a comedy movie.

Grey Munford, spekesman of MGM, said that Jim Carrey was "in negotiations" for the role of Curly. The studio first featured the stooges in a series of shorts and features beginning in 1933.

Munford said that the shooting of the film will being this fall and is expeted to be released in 2010.

It will be the first comedy for Sean Penn, who won two-time Oscar, a Golden Globe Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award.

Sean Penn won Oscar for his roles in "Mystic River" and "Milk".
