Richard Gere: Tours Galapagos, meets unique tortoise
Veteran actor Richard Gere is thinking of adopting the cause of preserving the Galapagos Islands.
Sources have thrown more light on the news of Richard Gere. According to them, Vanessa Garcia, the Galapagos National Park spokesperson, he offered to speak out publicly for their conservation during a visit to the Ecuadorean islands.
The Galapagos is a home for distinctive animal and plant species and were a living laboratory for Charles Darwin. However the conservationists said that they are threatened by development and tourism.
This fifty nine year old star of "Pretty Woman" and "Chicago" Gere is making a tour of the archipelago along with his wife and son. Ecuadorean TV shows Gere meeting Lonesome George, believed it to be the last living member of the Geochelone abigdoni tortoise species.
Richard Gere is an frank advocate for human rights and other causes in Tibet.
