Annika Sorenstam: Expects first child in autumn
On Thursday Annika Sorenstam, who is one of the most successful female golfers of all-time, made an announcement that she is pregnant with her first child.
"(Husband) Mike (McGee) and I are very pleased to announce that we are expecting our first child." Sorenstam wrote this on her internet blog.
Fuether she wrote, "We have had a lot of exciting changes in the past few months, and adding a new addition to our family later this fall will certainly be at the top of that list."
The announcement comes just 3 months after thirty-eight year old Swede competed in her final tournament.
Sorenstam added, "We are absolutely thrilled and look forward to this new chapter of our lives," "We appreciate the love and support that we have received from our family, friends, and of course my fans."
In the month of January Sorenstam tied knots with American Mike McGee, who is the son of former PGA Tour player Jerry McGee.
According to Sorenstam she has been spending her time away from the women's tour by designing courses, teaching golf. Recently she also launched a line of perfumes.
Sorenstam told The Golf Channel on the weekend, "It is very different," "We will see what the future will bring. Right now I got some other things stored."
Her new life also includes playing casual golf and watching the pros on TV every weekend.
When being asked if she would ever play competitive golf again, Sorenstam did not close the door completely on a comeback.
She continued, "Being retired is a good thing. We will see if I want to change that," "I certainly need the competitive drive. I can't think of a tougher time to do business than now."
Sorenstam called it quits after the Dubai Ladies Masters, the season-ending Ladies European Tour tournament.
She grabbed eighty nine international individual titles, seventy-two of which came on the LPGA Tour.
She is the only women's player who has broken the 60 barrier in tournament play and comfortably tops the all-time career money list with earnings more than 22 million dollars on the LPGA Tour.
