 Michelle Obama: To receive 2009 CFDA special tribute award
America's First Lady, Michelle Obama will be honoured by the Council of Fashion Designers of America at their annual awards ceremony in June.
Michelle Obama, who has made a mark on the fashion industry, will receive a special tribute from the board of directors of CFDA.
CFDA will establish a grant in her name to help young and new fashion company.
The nominees for the Council of Fashion Designers of America 2009 Awards were announced on March 16.
The nominees for the 2009 Womenswear Designer of the year are Marc Jacobs, Narciso Rodriguez and sisters Kate and Laura Mulleavy, the designers of the Rodarte label. Menswear Designer of the year nominees are Italo Zucchelli of the Calvin Klein Collection, Michael Bastian and Scott Sternberg of Band of Outsiders.
Marc Jacobs has also been nominated for the International Award and Accessory Designer of the year. Others nominees are Vera Wang and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler.
